Running the Optimizer More Than Once

After reviewing the results of the optimizer, you may decide to make adjustments to the courses and preferences and re-run the optimization process. This article describes what happens when this occurs.

Overview

Once you've reviewed the optimization results, you may decide to make adjustments and re-run a portion of the optimization routine or maybe discard all of the optimizer's selections and start over. Mazévo's optimizer makes these adjustments easy to perform.

What happens when you re-run the optimizer?

Any course that previously had a room assigned by the optimizer and not explicitly locked will be re-optimized if you re-run the optimizer. Re-optimizing can be limited to selected subjects.

Preventing a course from being reassigned to a new room on subsequent optimizations.

To prevent a course from being reassigned to a new room, use the lock room assignment function as follows:

  1. Use the checkboxes on the left side of the grid to select one or more courses to be locked.
  2. From the pop-up menu, select Lock Room Assignment > Yes.

Resetting the Room Assignment Manually

There may be a time when you want to reset all or some of the room assignments and start the optimization process over. The steps to resetting are:

  1. Use the checkboxes on the left side of the grid to select one or more courses to be reset.
  2. From the pop-up menu, select Reset Course.

Resetting a course's room assignment removes the previously assigned room, including resetting any courses with a manually assigned room or assigned SIS Room, so be careful with the reset function.
